Trajectory of laboratory and clinical metabolic risk factors in people with prediabetes prior to diabetes development

INTRODUCTION

  • prediabetes is dysglycemic state with high rate of progression to diabetes. conversion rate from prediabetes to diabetes is about 5-10% annually in different population.
  • Although the lifetime risk to progress from prediabetes to diabetes is high (74%) , but progression of prediabetes to diabetes is preventable with lifestyle changes or pharmacological interventions.
  • It is important to know the risk factors of progression and the trajectory of these risk factors in prediabetic individuals.
  • It can help the clinicians to start preventive intervention in accurate time when these risk factors deteriorate before diabetes occurrence.
